It seems like MLB is getting younger and younger, with the playing time share for rookies getting larger. That becomes even more true when rosters expand in September to make room for the young guys to get some experience and start to figure out what it's going to take to be a big leaguer. There are some, however, that become a centerpiece of a championship team immediately, and without them, that trophy may have never come home. Let me explain… (14 mins)
I opened up the mailbag and answered 11 of your biggest questions for me! (15 mins)
Let's take a deep dive into some of the stud rookies from around the league! I break down the Red Sox's Payton Tolle, and the Mets' Jonah Tong and Nolan McClean. These two teams have high hopes for a deep playoff run this year and these three guys will have to play major roles if they have a real chance. So what are they working with? How good are they, really? Let's get into it… (13 mins)
Many things have gone wrong for Ryan Helsley since he's become a New York Met. He says he's been tipping his pitches to batters. But what exactly is he doing? Is there anything else going on? Can he fix it in time for the playoffs? I have thoughts, so let's discuss… (11 mins)
More and more athletes are announcing their intention to get into politics. But why? And if it ends up being a good idea, what players should actually do it? Let's discuss... (8 mins)

Don't sleep on the Blue Jays
With just about three weeks left before the postseason, the Toronto Blue Jays are in prime position to make a run through a wide open American League. Surprised? You’re not alone.
My producer, David Korn, wrote about what’s been going right for the Toronto Blue Jays.
STAT OF THE WEEK - Fast-swing Rate
Statcast defines a “fast swing” as one that reaches a swing speed of 75 MPH. A player’s “fast-swing rate” is simply showing the percentage of all of his swings that did reach 75 MPH. In the first month of 2024, 23% of all swings qualified as a ‘fast swing.’
Why 75 MPH? Similarly to how a hard-hit ball is one with 95 MPH+ of exit velocity as that’s where it begins to “matter,” 75 MPH of swing speed is where you see per-swing production reach league-average, with gains then accruing as swing speed increases (to a point). The difference between a hard swing and any slower swing that did not reach 75 MPH was considerable – there is great value in swinging harder. (via MLB)
